SRISTI: BLOGGING IS FUN!

Reader Sristi, a would-be teen journalist living in Kolkata, tells us what blogging means to her…

Sristi says:
Cathy's fanbase has spread not only all over Europe, but all over the world, and I am living proof of that as I live in Kolkata (Calcutta) in India. Cathy played a vital role in inspiring me to start my blog… I had the idea of posting an interview with her! My other inspiration was renowned and controversial Indian journalist Arnab Goswani, one of the very few men in the media who directly and blatantly exposes scams and dishonesty in politics and in society. Some people hate him for this but I think his show 'The Newshour' is wonderful, he fires the questioning and persistent spirit of journalism in me. Of course, I cannot go around slamming political parties as he does, but my blog is one way I can begin my writing career!

Being a blogger isn't easy. You need to keep on posting regularly and find interesting topics, which is sometimes a challenge! Saying that, blogging is fun as well! Especially for me, as I aspire to be a journalist and I obviously need to begin working on that now! I decided not to stick to one specific genre for my blog, as I want to be versatile, and I don't want blogging to feel too heavy or serious. Blogging for me is having a platform where I can express my views and write about something feel-good!

My first ever post was an interview with Cathy Cassidy, and right now I am writing a series of posts called '2015: The Year of Fests, Practices and Adrenaline,' which is all about what is going now in schools in Kolkata, so it's on everyone's minds and topical. If anyone reading feels that they might like to start a blog, my advice would be to go for it. It's fun, it's interesting and there are no hard and fast rules. As long as what you write does not go against the social interest, this is you chance to speak out and be heard. Start typing, folks!

Cathy says:
I love Sristi's blog and like to catch up with it now and then… it's fascinating to get an insight into life in India. Blogging really can make the world feel like a smaller place! Have you ever blogged? COMMENT BELOW to tell us more!

  1. Is it Kolkata or Kalkuta? Or both! By the way, it's 'controversial' not "contraversial". It sounds like it should have an a instead of an o but that's not the case.
I'm another one who was inspired to start a blog by you. I didn't think I'd have the motivation to start a blog but you said I should give it a go and I figured that if you could do it when you have books to write and travelling to do and life to live, where was my excuse? I mean, I was right, I really don't have the motivation for it and my posts can be three days apart or over a month apart and although I'm glad I didn't choose a specific thing to blog about, I also have no idea how to organise everything. I just hope people like cluttered messes!

  2. I love blogging, especially on blogging. I first got into blogging by using tumblr and Twitter, and using them for micro-blogging posts. I love it, because I can use it to have a rant or to record things like a diary when I need to have a vent.

I have five blogs (I know, I have loads...): two of them I don't update all of the time anymore because they were there as a way of helping me to document all of the bullying that was happening to me. I use one everyday, one for some of my creative pieces as a way of collecting my drafts together, and I use one when I feel a bit down. It keeps me busy during lulls at work, and when I get bored at home.

It's fast become one of my hobbies! :)

  3. Hi cathy! I've seen 2 posts on your blog now featuring other girl's sites. I write my own blog and it has posts mainly about art, fashion design and sometimes baking along with some other topics on it. I'm really interested in perhaps helping to write one of your posts on here about my own blog. I don't mind if you would rather not, but it would be much appreciated. Here is the address:http://megansmegablog.blogspot.co.uk/ . Please let me know if you would be interested. :)

    1. I think you should definitely start a blog. You could always make it anonymous and just write about your hobbies or something, I bet if you put a link on this website you could get loads of views!

    2. You should go for it! It is very fun to upload things that you're interested in. If you are a bit nervous you could have the comments locked down to start with until you feel more confident in hearing what people have to say about it. I agree with the other reply-you could make it so you are anonymous on it. :)
